In what ways can herpes affect pregnant women?

In most cases, pregnant women, who have contracted herpes, are able to have a health birth with no hazard posed to them or their child. At the same time, the doctors should be informed as to the herpes being present so that she can take a closer watch against any outbreak in the birth canal.

Should an outbreak occur, a decision can be made to have a caesarian section instead of the vaginal birth. This way, any contact between a newborn’s skin and infected skin on the mother’s body can be avoided.
